[From 2022] From Asheville, North Carolina we have reopened OmPoint Press. Yay! Our first book here is the publication An Almost Perfect Balance, The Authorized Biography of Don E. Stevens (Asheville: OmPoint Press, 2022).
This book was 20 years in the making, having started work on this in Londonn in 2002. The book can be acquired from Barnes & Noble, or Amazon, or Sheriar Books (Myrtle Beac, SC). Also, I am now full time at Collibra as a Sr. Manager of Customer Success for Data Quality.
My new book will be about Love, Lover, and beloved Meher Baba.
[From 2020] From April to November of 2019 I worked as a Technology Lead for Duke Energy on seminal software that is confidential. During that time I architected, designed, wrote code for, and managed a team of up to about 12 full time, part time, and contract workers from various backgrounds, including but not limited to mathematics, electrical engineering, software development, product management and more. I was asked to create a multi-year product development roadmap, and to get the work done in nine months. It was a high pressure, high visibility and high stakes product, and we did accomplish our goal. We used a Graph Database (TigerGraph) and wrote most of the software in Python. There was a Java component as well, and an extremely sophisticated front end UI, for exception user experience. I managed the UI/UX development as well.
After this, I joined Hashmap, Inc. as a full time consultant specializing in Apache Spark, and Kafka. I worked on-site at a Bank, and am currently engaged on another client project for Hashmap. Prior to 2019 I was involved in working for a number of technology companies such as Databricks (Apache Spark), and Datameer (UI on top of Hadoop and Spark, etc.), as well as Hortonworks and Cloudera. I have written many blogs about my teaching and mentoring of especially Spark developers On LinkedIn here. I have more Recommendations, also on LinkedIn here.
And on the spiritual side with Avatar Meher Baba, I have been involved in many new writing projects, which are described on my Manifested page.
[From July 10, 2015] I just started writing some Apache Spark applications in Java. Here is a blog post at LinkedIn about the most recent one using Spark Streaming with Twitter.
Starting June 15, 2015 Laurent has once again resumed work as an independent consultant after having done full time Big Data work at Hortonworks (with Hadoop), DataStax (with Cassandra), and Couchbase (with Couchbase Server and RxJava Observables). His new consulting work will focus on Big Data implementing all of those technologies, now including Apache Spark. Also, during June 2015 OmPoint was formally incorporated as OmPoint Innovations, LLC. This process started in 2004 with the investment by Don E. Stevens, and we have now realized that dream. We are also hiring in Ashland, Oregon as well.
[From 2011] As a free man once again, Laurent launched himself back into the Java (and related technologies) training and business development, including courseware development. Also of high interest (no J.P.Morgan pun intended), was his acquiring of both ScrumMaster and Scrum Product Owner certifictaions from the Scrum Alliance.
We believe that Scrum, and other Agile methodologies are here to stay, and we are actively working to create innovative courses in this arena. Om.
[From October 16, 2007] Starting March 30, 2007 Laurent accepted full time employment as a Senior Developer of web applications (and other apps) for J.P.Morgan Retirement Plan Services as a remote developer living in Flagstaff. Laurent subsequently resigned from J.P. Morgan during Decmeber 2010.
May all beings be happy, may all beings be free.
